This Sunday, we’ll be looking at the prophet Hosea. Hosea confronts the nation of Israel, and calls them to repent of their sin and to return to the Lord, likening their sin to spiritual adultery.
God even has Hosea marry a promiscuous woman as an object lesson. And then, when Hosea’s wife leaves him, and committs adultery with other lovers, God has Hosea pursue her, and redeem her, and save her from adultery and slavery, so that she can be in relationship with him once again.
The book of Hosea is a warning to God’s people that judgment is coming, because of their infidelity and sin. And it is an exhortation to repent, and to return to the Lord, to enjoy His grace and redemption.
