This Sunday, we will be in Luke 9:57-62. In this text, Jesus interacts with 3 people, all of whom initially appear interested in following him. But all 3 of them have some reservations, or objections, or excuses as to why they can’t.
And Jesus gives them some very difficult responses to ponder. He tells them that he is poor and homeless, so if they want to follow him, they should be prepared for a life of hardship. He tells them that if they want to follow him, he must be their first priority – even ahead of their own family. And he tells them that if they want to follow him, they must throw themselves into it, without reservation, and never look back.
We will consider together these difficult sayings of Jesus. And what they mean for us as Christians today.
