This Sunday, we will continue working through the females found in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1. And we come to our second woman - Rahab (Matthew 1:5, Joshua 2-6).
Rahab is a prostitute who lives in the city of Jericho when the Israelites arrive after fleeing Egypt and wandering in the wilderness. We meet Rahab when she hides Israelite spies who are doing reconnaissance from the authorities who are looking for them. In exchange, she asks for them to spare her and her household when the city is eventually defeated and destroyed. And they do.
We will consider together why this story is significant. And why Jesus chose to have Rahab as a great great great (etc.) grandmother. And what it means for us as Christians today.
