How would you articulate the main theme of this psalm in one sentence?
In 27:1-3, David projects confidence and assurance. Where does his confidence come from? How is he able to be so fearless?
What is the one thing that David wants, more than anything else? (27:4) Why?
Do you find it difficult to desire the presence and glory of God more than the things that the world has to offer? Why or why not?
What are the requests and petitions that David prays to God for? (27:7-12) Why are they significant?
Read 27:9. How are each of these requests made possible through the ministry of Jesus, and his death on the cross?
Read 27:10. Why is it significant that David expects the Lord to save him - even when his own parents have forsaken him?
How does the picture of a godly father help us to understand the heart of God, and our relationship to God? (See also 2 Corinthians 6:16-18, Romans 8:15-16, 1 John 3:1) How is David able to trust in God, even when his earthly father has evidently failed to love him well?
In 17:11, David makes it clear that he does not just want God to save him; he wants God to teach him and lead him. Why is this significant? How can we apply this principle in our lives today?
27:14 is unique, in that it is not addressed to God. Who is it addressed to? What implications does this have for us, and for our corporate worship?
How can we, as Christians today, be intentional to use corporate worship not just to worship God (vertically), but also to encourage and edify one another (horizontally)?
