This Sunday, we will hear from Daniel 5. In it, King Belshazzar is throwing a party, and it is interrupted when a hand appears and writes something on the wall. The king asks Daniel to interpret the writing. Daniel tells him that the writing means that the days of king Belshazzar have been numbered; and that he has been weighed, and found wanting; and that his kingdom will be taken, and given to other nations.
We will consider a number of theological themes, including the sovereignty of God, the dangers of sin and pride, the costliness of trusting and obeying God in the face of possible persecution, and the faithfulness of God to protect and provide for his people.
