This Sunday, we’ll be in Luke 8:40-56, looking at the story of Jesus healing a woman, and a little girl.
In the last 20 verses of the gospel, Jesus has demonstrated his sovereignty over the natural world (a violent storm), and the supernatural world (a legion of demonic forces). Now, he will demonstrate his sovereignty over life and death itself, as He restores the life of a 12 year old girl. Along the way, He also proceeds to heal a woman who has been hemorrhaging blood for 12 years.
We’ll consider how this text gives us insight into the heart of God. That He cares enough about His people (even those that the world has dismissed or forgotten) to draw near to them, and save them, and give them new life, even when it seems unlikely, or impossible. And we’ll consider what this means for us, as Christians today.
