This Sunday, we will hear from John 8:31-59.  In it, Jesus is dialoging with the religious leaders of Israel.  They are skeptical and hostile, asserting their own pedigree as children of Abraham, and accusing Jesus of not knowing who his parents are.  Jesus corrects them, saying that they are not children of Abraham - they are children of the devil!  And that Abraham anticipated the day when Jesus would come to his people.  When they ask Jesus how he could possibly know that about Abraham, he responds: “Before Abraham was, I am.”
