This Sunday, we will hear from Romans 4:1-12.
So far, in Romans 1-3, Paul has established that all of humanity is under sin, and deserving of God’s judgment. And that God has provided a way for sinners to be saved - by trusting in Jesus, who gave his life as a sacrifice, in our place, to satisfy the wrath of God.
In Romans 4, Paul looks at a case study of this phenomenon from the Old Testament - the life of Abraham. To show that he was justified by faith.
We will consider how a (relatively) righteous man like Abraham was not saved by works, but by trusting in the mercy of God. And why that is what we must do as well.
